Residential Student Move-In and Testing

All residential students are required to take a COVID-19 saliva test upon arrival to campus, and those traveling from outside the state will be asked to quarantine in their suite as required by local and state guidance.

Wed Jan 6, 2021

Dear Residential Students,

We are writing to let you know that spring 2021 housing assignments have been posted. Please read this email carefully and reply to with any questions you may have. Out-of-state and out-of-country students, please pay special attention to the Student Quarantine section of this email.

Your specific room assignment and roommate information is available to view on your Residence portal. Your meal plan selection is available to view on your MyCLU portal

Housing Assignment Information

In an effort to accommodate as many residential students as possible for the spring semester, our Old West Halls (Afton, Conejo, Janss, and Rasmussen) will operate as blended communities housing both first-year and continuing students in the spring 2021 semester. Any first-year or continuing student living in these halls will be assigned a suite-mate of their same class level (first-year students with fellow first-years; continuing students with fellow continuing students).

If you currently have a vacancy in your suite, there is still a chance it could be filled either before or during the spring semester. Please be sure that the vacant bedroom in your suite is ready for a new resident at any time.

If you would like to request a residence hall change or roommate switch, please click here to do so. Space is extremely limited, and we cannot guarantee that change requests will be accommodated. If you would like to request a roommate switch, all roommates must submit a change request form.

Meal Plan Change Requests

Students have until 5 p.m. on January 29, 2021 to make adjustments to meal plans. First-year students can choose between the 19 and 210 Block meal plan. Students living in standard halls are required to hold a full meal plan. Meal plans are not required for students living in apartment-style halls, but those students can opt into any full or partial meal plan if they choose. All meal plan options are available here. If you would like to change your meal plan for the spring semester, please email with your name, student ID number, and the meal plan you would like to change to.

ID Card Information for New Residential Students

If you are moving on-campus for the first time this spring, you must upload your ID card photo no later than 5 p.m. January 11, 2021Instructions can be found here. If you do not complete this process by January 11, your ID card will not be ready on your move-in date. Your ID card is how you will receive access to your residence hall, room, and meal plan, so it is important that students complete this process ahead of their arrival. Questions about ID card uploads can be directed to Campus Safety at (805) 493-3208.

Move-In Information

Move-in dates and time slots were sent to students starting December 18. Please check your CLU email for your assigned date and time.

Move-in will be staggered over the course of three days and five time slots. Any student who cannot arrive on their assigned date/time should plan to arrive on our flex move-in day, Tuesday, January 19, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Students do not need to notify us if they choose to arrive on the flex day. There are no assigned move-in slots on January 16-17, and student move-in will not be accommodated over those two days.

Whether you resided on-campus in the fall or are new to campus spring semester, all students will check in outside the Residence Life Office in Mt. Clef Hall during their move-in time slot. All residential students are required to receive a COVID-19 saliva test upon arrival to campus. A test will be administered to students at check-in, and ID card activation and key distribution will occur once a student’s COVID-19 test is completed.

In select circumstances, more than one student in a suite may be assigned to arrive on the same date/time, or multiple students may plan to arrive on the flex move-in day. We encourage students to communicate with their roommates ahead of time to establish when each student will be arriving and arrange to stagger move-in periods as much as possible.

Students may have no more than two guests assist them with moving in. Students and their guests must comply with criteria outlined in our Cal Lutheran Compact, and guests are expected to depart the residence hall by the end of the assigned move-in time slot. Students and guests must wear face masks any time they are outside of their assigned residence hall room.

Student Quarantine

For the safety of our campus community, students traveling from out of state will be asked to quarantine in their suite as required by local and state guidance after arriving on campus (currently 14 days). Students who are quarantining will only be permitted to leave their room to retrieve food from Ullman Commons or to conduct other essential activities (such as going to the grocery store or attending a doctor's appointment). Out-of-state students will receive an additional COVID-19 test between their fifth and seventh days of residing on campus. With negative test results, students will be released from their quarantine on their 14th day.

Your First Days On Campus

Resident Assistants will be reaching out to new residential students during their first days on campus to facilitate virtual hall meetings, host virtual programs, and get students acclimated to living on campus. We encourage students to participate in these engagement opportunities and meet peers living in their residence hall.

Technology Update

Important note for all students: Please be aware that Roku’s agreement with Spectrum U (our internet cable provider) ended on December 11. Anyone who previously downloaded the Spectrum U App on their Roku device will be able to continue using the App, but if removed from a Roku device, they will not be able to download it again until an agreement has been reached between Roku and Spectrum. ITS anticipates another agreement between Roku and Spectrum U will be reached in the future, but advises students to plan to access Spectrum U via an AppleTV, iOS, or Android device for the time being. If you have questions about Spectrum U, please contact ITS at (805) 493-3698.

For more information on what to bring on move-in day, please visit our website.

We look forward to seeing you at move-in!
